As the name implies, same-day crowns are a type of crown that can be built and placed in just one day. While traditional crowns require at least 2 appointments over a period of several weeks, CEREC technology allows Dr. Bauer to offer same-day crowns in a single, 1-2 hour appointment. Contact us now to schedule your appointment, and get the crown you need your Fresno dentist.
To begin the process, your mouth will be cleaned and numbed. Then, Dr. Bauer will trim your tooth to remove damaged enamel and create a stable platform for your crown. Next, he will scan your tooth with a CEREC Primescan intraoral scanner. This scan is uploaded into a special computer, where he can build your crown.
Your dentist in Fresno will use a computer to adjust your scan and build a crown that will fit perfectly over your tooth. Once his design is complete, he will upload it into a CEREC milling unit. Then, he will place a block of tooth-colored porcelain in the unit. The CEREC milling unit will automatically trim this block into a perfectly-shaped crown.
Once your crown has been built, Dr. Bauer will remove it from the CEREC machine, and check the fit to make sure it’s perfect. Once everything looks good, he will use dental cement to permanently attach the crown to your tooth. Then, you’ll be sent home. The entire process usually takes between 1-2 hours.
The biggest benefit of same-day crowns is that you don’t have to come back for multiple appointments. Whether you need a new or you’re replacing an old, worn-out crown, Dr. Bauer can take care of you in just one convenient appointment at Bauer Dental Co.
In the traditional crown process, you usually have to wear an uncomfortable temporary crown for 1-2 weeks until your lab-made crown arrives at our office. Then, your temporary crown is removed and replaced with a permanent crown. This is not necessary for CEREC crowns, since your crown will be made and placed in just one appointment.
The process of scanning your mouth is fully digital, and does not require the use of trays and dental putty, which many patients find uncomfortable. Digital scanning is faster than traditional impressions, too, which helps streamline your appointment at our office.
Same-day crowns can treat the same issues as dental crowns. They are often used to treat cavities, repair damaged teeth after an oral injury, cover up a tooth after root canal therapy, and even sometimes for cosmetic purposes.
If you have a toothache, you have a chipped or broken tooth, you suspect you have a cavity, or you have an old and worn-out dental crown, a same-day crown from Bauer Dental Co. may be right for you. Give us a call for a consultation, and get the care you need.
You can treat your same-day crown just like a natural tooth. To take care of it, just brush and floss normally, and see Dr. Bauer every six months for a teeth cleaning and oral exam. That’s it!
Yes, same-day crowns are fabricated out of porcelain which is shade-matched to your natural teeth so that they look as natural as possible and blend in with the rest of your teeth seamlessly. Porcelain is the most sought-after material for natural-looking tooth restorations due to its superior aesthetics.
Lab-made crowns are often made of less aesthetic materials such as metal, zirconia, or porcelain-fused-to-metal. Even though porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns combine the strength and durability of metal crowns along with the cosmetic appearance of porcelain, there is still a metal outline around the tooth that can show when you smile.
Thanks to same-day CEREC crowns, you can leave the office with a beautifully restored smile after just one appointment.
Same-day crowns have a comparable lifespan to lab-made crowns. They last on average for 5 to 15 years but have the durability to last longer than this with proper care. Other factors that impact how long your CEREC crown will last include the location of the tooth, oral hygiene, and lifestyle.
When CEREC crowns are placed in the rear teeth, they undergo significant chewing forces which can wear down or chip porcelain crowns. This is why CEREC crowns are recommended for the front teeth which aren’t used for chewing. For this reason, same-day crowns are likely to last longer if placed in the front teeth rather than the rear molars.
Just because a crown is placed over your tooth, this doesn’t mean you are protected from tooth decay and gum disease. You still need to brush your teeth twice a day and floss once a day as part of your preventative oral health care routine.
Things that can damage your crowns include chewing on hard or sticky foods, chewing on your nails, grinding your teeth, using your teeth as tools, and chewing on ice. Porcelain is a stain-resistant material, but stains can still build up over time so you should limit your consumption of staining foods and drinks and avoid tobacco products.
The average cost of a dental crown varies based on the type of material and location in the mouth, regardless of if it is a CEREC or lab-made crown.
Porcelain is one of the more expensive crown materials due to its aesthetic properties and careful design. Since CEREC crowns are exclusively made out of porcelain, they often start at a higher price than other crowns such as metal materials.
However, lab-made porcelain crowns will be a similar price and will also charge you for multiple appointments, an outside dental lab, the fabrication performed by a dental technician, and a temporary dental crown.
Same-day crowns eliminate all of these third-party costs which bring the cost down overall. Insurance may also cover your same-day crowns at 50 to 80% of the cost depending on your insurance policy and whether they consider same-day crowns to be a restorative or cosmetic procedure.
If you don’t have dental insurance, don’t worry, we offer financing options through Proceed Finance that can split your costs up into smaller monthly payments. Contact us at Bauer Dental Company today to learn more.
